Recession talk has been all over the news after the U.S. experienced its second quarter of negative GDP growth recently. Two quarters of decline has been the shorthand definition of a recession, but there is more to it than that.

2018 was another successful year of giving back to our community. We again collaborated with Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS), participating in two out-of-office community service days and holding an in-office holiday toy drive. Despite the record rain and a postponement from the spring, our patience was rewarded with a sunny fall day to hold a field day for three to five year olds at NVFS’s Head Start center in Arlington. This concept is borne out of the idea that we can make investment choices that are not only profitable, but also made in sustainable businesses worldwide. Barron’s defines the movement as “impact investing” – aligning a family’s portfolio with interests and core values in an effort to make the world a better place.
